E|scape Exploring the Space for Design Research between I-We-Do-Think
In 2016, the E|scape professorship of ArtEZ University of the Arts started. Design historian Jeroen van den Eijnde has been appointed professor of Product Design & Interior Architecture. This book is a representation in word and image of his lectorate speech. Jeroen van den Eijnde describes what research at an art university can mean in the field of product and interior design. He proposes research that is indebted to the tradition of art education and that is based on the traditional knowledge of creative processes, on the abductive and speculative thinking of artists and designers and on their critical and often ethically motivated questions. A form of design research into products and spaces from which people derive their identities. Research that constantly moves between the personal motives of individual designers and the questions that society asks them.
This book contains both the Dutch and the English text.
