Inventing Futures Doing and Thinking – Artistic Research with(in) the Master of Choreography Programme of ArtEZ Institute of the Arts
Inventing Futures is one of a series of books initiated by the ArtEZ School of Dance. This publication celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Master of Choreography programme. It marks this particular, special moment in time by creating a discursive and dynamic object in which memories of the past and visions of the future converge. The past and the future are here not to be thought historically or chronologically, as in a stream of events unfolding linearly, smoothly and logically in time. The past and the future are rather to be thought and felt as clusters which are all there simultaneously. Inventing Futures is a mixture, a hybrid of an art book, a selection of essays, a score or a choreography itself, which comes to life in its encounter with the reader. The book consists of five clusters reflecting upon a central or nodal notion: latency, constraint, collaboration, failure and trust. Even though the book consists of these clusters, the heterogeneity of modalities of writing and how these are staged on the page invites the reader to become an explorer and invent their own enactive route and mode of reading.
