Kunsteducatie voor families Intergenerationeel spelen in musea en op festivals

By Els Hoogstraat & Moniek Warmer

‘Kunsteducatie voor families’ is a contemporary manifesto constructed around the statement that ‘Visual art is experienced more intensely through intergenerational play’. The publication addresses questions such as the following: where did this thought come from, and how was it tested? Where does this method of experiencing art originate from? And why is it important to allow several generations to experience art together? The idea took shape thanks to the notion that people should also be confronted and seduced by art outside of formal education. In addition, the authors’ new method was developed so that students and alumni working in the field of art education also gather material for extracurricular art education. This allows art education to act as an intermediary, and as such ‘mediate’ between art and the viewer. In order to ensure that this field of work is suitably familiar with their method, the authors conducted interviews with professionals, which lent them insight into the competencies the students need for this. Afterward, the authors developed projects in collaboration with professionals in the field in order to train students and alumni and bring their method into practice.
