It is a great pleasure to introduce a brand new publication; an idea, initiative and made possible by the Professorship Music-based Therapies and Interventions (MTI), ArtEZ University of the Arts.

How do we define ‘Intelligence’ and how do we interpret ‘Artistic Intelligence’? Is there a battle between Artistic Intelligence (AI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Or are these two forms of intelligence converging to create a fundamental transformation of artistic practices and the world around us? And are the boundaries between these two AIs still that clear, if such boundaries even exist anymore?

These intriguing questions led us to start the AI & AI project. What began as an exploration turned into an unexpectedly rewarding and inspiring journey through the AI & AI Survey, a workshop, a video essay, student-led sub-projects, and ultimately the creation of this interactive digital book.

The digital book invites you to think, explore, and engage with these ongoing questions yourself. It offers a starting point to nurture new ideas around the relationship between Artistic and Artificial Intelligence, as well as a platform for dialogue and discussion.

Because this is a digital publication it gives us the unique opportunity that the book can keep on growing. In the future more contributions will be added to the book, so you can keep exploring.

The digital book is edited by Artur Jaschke and Vincent Zhong, written by Ricardo Sulzle and Evgeniia van Zonneveld with an introduction by Artur Jaschke and Vincent Zhong and designed and created by Tofe Al-Obaidi and Janine Zielman, video by Li Yunchen.
